Folk & Fauna

About Folk and Fauna

Specimens from the natural and unnatural world, on soft cotton.

Folk and Fauna is a small apparel studio interested in the parts of the natural world that don't usually make the poster — the possum hunting mushrooms, the caterpillar before it is a butterfly, the seagull with a plan. The work borrows its manners from old field guides and naturalist engravings: stippled line, aged paper, a restrained palette.

How a shirt is made

About the artwork: designed in-house with the help of AI, then finished by hand before printing.

Each design is printed with DTF (direct-to-film) transfer onto Comfort Colors® garment-dyed cotton — a heavyweight, pre-shrunk, ring-spun tee that softens rather than cracks. Ink colours are chosen per design against the actual garment, so the print reads the way it was intended on the shirt you receive, not just on a screen.

Nothing is printed until it is ordered. That keeps the range wide and the waste low, and it means an order takes a few days to make before it ships.
